I got this bed because I wanted a basket-style bed with orthopedic foam for our 16-year-old arthritic dog because the basket keeps her warm and the foam helps relieve the stiffness. But the foam in this bed isn't as dense or "convoluted" as the picture suggests. It does have some convolution but if you have a really old or really arthritic dog, you will need something under this bed for support. We cut up the old convoluted foam bed we had for her and stuffed it in so she is actually laying on that piece of foam. We also had a large square of styrofoam which we also cut and put underneath the bed (and it is held by the bed cover so the foam isn't visible). With those improvements, she absolutely adores the bed and isn't stiff when she gets out of it.

So the good parts of this bed are that:

A. The cover expands enough for you to add stuff to the bed.
B. The color doesn't show dirt.
C. The fur is warm.

You will need to get additional foam or other support if you have an older dog.

I bought the large size for my 60 lb. boxer. Because of her ability to turn into a tiny ball when sleeping, TWO of her could fit in the bed. Next time, I will buy the medium size...and I will buy this product again. The instant I took it out of the box and fluffed it up, she was all over it. My next test though, is how well this bed is going to make it through the industrial sized washer at the laundry mat. That is my only reason for 4 stars instead of 5. OK, yes, I had to be patient. I had to coax my 'babies' onto these beds with treats... that was the first day. Now I practically have to coax them OFF of the beds to wash the covers. I didn't get them here (no offense Amazon, but there are better prices out there AND worse, folks, research).

Another warning: if you have 2 similar in size dogs, don't get creative like I did. I bought one of the round and one of the rectangle... the round is thicker/higher than the rectangle... they struggle for possession of the round, so I'm giving in and ordering another round and sending the rectangle to my nephew's dog who doesn't know any better. ;-)

These beds are all they claim them to be. Both of my dogs are over 80 lbs. each, both love digging at their beds... No problem, they did only once in a great while, I guess the bed is so comfortable it doesn't need their adjustments; and when they do dig at it... nothing happens, the bed doesn't pop and go flying around the room, it doesn't hiss and deflate.
It just sits there and takes anything they can dish out. NOW HERE'S THE BEST NEWS... NO MORE SMELLY BEDS, NO MORE TRYING TO WASH HUGE DOG BEDS IN YOUR WASHER, NO MORE STRUGGLING TRYING TO GET WASHED ZIPPER COVERS BACK ONTO FILLERS THAT ARE ALL DISTORTED and dont' want to fit into the cover.
Imagine the feeling of cleanliness when you pop the light weight cover into the washer AND SPONGE OFF the vinyl airbed, and when the short drying cycle is done on the cover, you slip it over the sanitized bed... My dog loves this bed! He was confused as to what he was supposed to do with it at first, but once we got him on it and had him lie down and praised him, he got it. He sleeps and naps more often now.
